Yours truly has attended the Press Conference for the 2nd Malaysia International Healthcare Travel Expo (MIHTE) 2013 which was held on the 12th September 2013 (Thursday) at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. The press conference was organised by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). Let's check out what MIHTE is all about here.
Medical Tourism is gaining more visibility through the annual Malaysia International Healthcare Travel Expo (MIHTE) organised by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). This annual event provides a platform to bring together key stakeholders in the whole healthcare travel industry providing opportunities to network, meet and exchange experiences among the different sectors in the whole healthcare travel value chain. It is a platform for creating synergies and new business opportunities in the fast growing medical tourism industry.
Dr Mary Wong, CEO of MHTC shared that "Medical tourism has become a very dynamic and competitive industry in the world today and Malaysia should showcase its competitive edge as we have good quality medical facilities, skilled doctors, affordable pricing and blessed with many touristic attractions. Therefore, providing a multifaceted medical tourism and experience as the theme says, is easily available here in our country and with the right combination of medical, health and tourism packages, Malaysia can be positioned to be the leading healthcare travel destination in the region."
Another innovation in this year's MIHTE is the introduction of a new communication platform where the event will be put as a mobile application for anyone who would like to have access to information about the event. This application is available in IOS and Android supported devices.
There were Q&A session for the media and all the questions were well answered by Dr Mary Wong and making it clear at the same time. In this event, more than 100 media and 200 foreign stakeholders are expected to come from all over the world to witness for themselves the excellent medical facilities and attractive tourism spots during the Familiarisation (FAM) visits organised by MHTC. Medical tourism packages which have been created by the exhibitors themselves prior to this event will also be made available to interested parties. The synergies and collaboration from the various sectors such as healthcare , airlines, travel agents, insurance, hotels, spas and retirement villages provided in this Expo offers many opportunities for creating new business partnerships and strengthening existing ties to maintain a sustainable development of this industry.
On top of that, a panel of experienced local and international experts will speak on a wide range of topics related to the medical tourism industry. This year, the conference will be conducted in multiple languages such as in English, Indonesia, Japanese, Arabic and Mandarin to support and cater to the language needs of the delegates from different countries. These language-based breakout sessions will address topics of interest target markets in addition to highlighting our array of specialties and innovations in medical science in Malaysia.
Anyone who wishes to venture into this industry or find out more about the event can register online or at the MHTC office. The MIHTE 2013 will be held from the 20th-22nd of October at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
