When someone tells me about eating with the locals, I was like... Do you think it is possible in Malaysia? I don't think so. I mean, you won't simply invite strangers come into your house and dine with you. Well, not after I stumbled upon this site called Withlocals! ヽ(*⌒∇⌒*)ノ
ST & Caroline |
I decided to give it a try and finally book a dinner session with the very much lovely host, ST! To book a dining experience on Withlocals is really easy, all you need to do is choose your host and make the payment, off you go enjoy the experience. You can always contact your host via the site and sort things out easily, whether on the change of time or special request.
Lovely table set up for dinner |
Pai Tee |
Our meal started with Pai Tee for the appetizer. Thin and crispy tart shell, filled with a mixture of thinly sliced vegetables and shredded prawns that tastes sweet with a hint of spiciness.
Otak-otak |
If you know me personally, you'd know I don't eat Otak-otak. I was really reluctant to eat it, but Eric told me it has a different texture than the one I've tried before. Dayum! I love how fresh it tasted, simply delicious, but it's way too spicy for me. (ノД`)・゜・。
Lor Bak |
If you ask what is my favorite Penang food? It must be the Lor Bak! These are yummy marinated minced pork that rolled in soybean sheets and deep fried. I find myself eating it nonstop and love how juicy and flavorful the minced pork within it. Yums!
Jiu Hu Char |
I also enjoyed myself eating the fried shredded cuttlefish mixed with vegetable which also known as Jiu Hu Char. It was so delicious to eat it as its own, I never bother to wrap it with the lettuce.
Braised Pork with Tofu |
Just so you know that, every single dish prepared on the table were cooked freshly, except of this Braised Pork with Tofu! ST marinated and braised it way earlier before in order to ensure the flavor fully absorbed into the meat and of course, tender pork for us to enjoy!
Fish Curry |
Seriously, I can't help but blaming myself for can't take spicy food. This huge bowl of Fish Curry tastes really great! ST shared that she uses threadfin fish (aka ikan Kurau) for this recipe. Trust me, you can never enjoy such expensive fish in otak-otak dish in any restaurant here. (Do let me know if there's one!) Enjoy this with the hot steamed rice, you'll never regret for asking another bowl of rice!
Ice Kacang |
To complete our dinner, ST served us with the Ice Kacang! ST prepared the green cendol from scratch and the texture of her cendol were soft and chewy at the same time. Basically, all the ingredients for the dessert were all prepared by herself from scratch. This is the best cendol I've ever had so far! No joke!
ST also gave me her homemade biscotti to try at home, certainly perfect for coffee and tea session! It was such a wonderful experience dining at ST's house. Now, I need to try my luck to book another dinner session with her again! Her schedule always packed and you really need to plan your booking in advanced! Just book a dining experience with here through Withlocals HERE.
