My Skincare Routine with Cetaphil

I don't have perfect nor the best skin in the world. In fact, it's been quite a journey to achieve the skin that I'm having now. I've talked about my skin pretty often back then in this blog and most of you still ask me from time to time how I managed to cure the crazy acne-prone skin I've had back then. I mean, who would've thought you can actually get crazy flared up acne all over your face at the age of 22 years old when you actually had ZERO pimples throughout your teenage life?! Well, it happened.

If you been a reader of this blog for the past 6-8 years, you would've seen these photos of my skin back then when I start sharing about products and also treatments I've gone through at that time.

2014, it was one of the scariest years of my life - I forced myself to learn about makeup just so I can cover all the acne and I get super insecure and uncomfortable when people actually asking what happened to my face? Little did I know, I actually made it worse as all the thick concealer and foundation clogged my pores and more acne popping up on my skin. It was terrifying at one point that I finally decided to see a dermatologist. She explained how things work and recommended me to try out Cetaphil.  Well, that's how my first introduced to the brand, Cetaphil.

I've used Cetaphil cleanser back then and truly glad how it actually helped my skin towards a clearer skin journey. I stopped using it as I was tempted to try out other products and guess what? Fast forward to early this year, I went back to KK and totally forgotten to bring my toiletries bag. It was late at night and all I see in the toilet was Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar soap on the counter which my mom use it to wash her face daily. I was already prepared to have my skin breaking out the next day. To my surprise, it didn't break my skin at all and I actually ended up using it for the entire 5 days back at KK home!

I'm turning 30 this coming December and I'm still always out and about, busy with work and stuff, every single day. If there's one thing I've learned throughout my 20s, it would be - less is more. I've tried the infamous 6-7 steps skincare regime and it's great to have different products applied to your skin to cater to specific problems. However, I've also realized that it didn't really work that way, at least to my troubled skin. Even in my late 20s, I still have pimples popping on my skin, especially during my period.

Because of what had happened in the past, I take skincare seriously and never ever skip it even though I'm feeling super tired coming back from a late night out. I would still make sure to remove my makeup thoroughly, wash my face and moisturize every night. Again, less is more. I'm keeping my skincare routine simple and it's all with only Cetaphil products which I'm going to share below.

Remember I mentioned about the Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar soap earlier? If you're not a fan of a soap bar, you can get Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser in liquid form like the one I'm currently using. This bottle is huge and what I love about this, you can use it for both face and body. ps. I do have some bacne aka back acne during my period and this has somehow cleared most of it.

Alright, let's go back to my skincare routine. I have a combination skin type - it's oily on my forehead and nose; it's very dry on my cheekbone, and it's normal on the rest of my face. I can no longer use an oily facial cleanser as it usually worsens the condition of my cheekbone area. With Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, I do not need to worry about any area of my face as it's actually suitable for ALL skin types! It covers dry, sensitive, oily, combination, normal, troubled skin (eczema, psoriasis). It's not going to clog your pores and because it's soap-free, it also means it won't overdry or over-cleanse the skin or strips off the skin's natural protective barrier. Also, it's fragrance-free. This is very important to people with sensitive skin like me.  Let’s be real, some of us love it when our skincare product smells nice and little did we know, most of the companies putting fragrance just to cover the unpleasant smell of the certain combination of product ingredients or just simply for the sake of selling point. As for me, I learned that product with fragrance does cause inflammation to sensitive skin.

How I use it differently day and night? In the morning, I usually just use it as normal. Pump a generous amount of the product onto the palm, then massage gently onto the face and rinse it with clean water. During the night, I would first apply it onto my face directly and massage gently to melt the makeup product on my skin before proceed with wiping off excess lotion with a soft towel. After removing my makeup, I'll then wash my face with the same cleanser again.

The Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream comes in a pretty big tube too and I know it's going to last a bit longer. It has a unique formula and superior system of emollient and humectant that binds water to the skin, softening while helping to prevent moisture loss, hence giving the skin long-lasting hydration, and keeping it soft and moist. Similar to the cleanser, it's fragrance-free and suitable for all skin type too! I really can't stand scented product on my face. I love that it's non-greasy, though it is in cream texture, it's still light and absorbed almost immediately into the skin. Guess what? I somehow no longer experience skin peeling on my cheekbone area after start using this moisturizer. I used to have to apply two different types of moisturizer onto my face.

I'm not sure about you but I can never ever leave the house without sunscreen. The Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense SPF 50+ works wonderfully on my skin too. With SPF50+, it provides broad-spectrum sun protection against harmful ultraviolet rays as well as keeping skin healthy. Just like other Cetaphil products, it is also non-greasy, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and moisturizing to the skin so it's suitable for all skin type too!

I've been practising the same skincare routine for quite a while now and really loving my skin condition now. Not gonna lie that I can't control my skin during the period, but at least I know that now I am comfortable going out with just a light powder on my skin. I no longer apply foundation daily even out for work, except there's an important event to attend to. It's true that you apply less makeup product when you have good skin and makeup product lies on the skin better when your skin is properly moisturized too! :D
Now you can get your favourite Cetaphil products through Lazada and Shopee.
